Pavilion

Mashangfenghou Pavilion is located on the bank of Biyu Lake next to Sizhi Study, named after the core collection Mashangfenghou in White Jade of Shenyu Art Museum.

“Mashang” means “right away” and “Fenghou” indicates dukedom conference. Therefore, “Mashangfenghou” means that dukedom will be conferred right away, implying that one will be conferred with dukedom by the emperor soon. This is the highest pursuit or honor of many scholars in the feudal society, just as the saying goes that “master civil and military skills to serve the emperor”.

This pavilion stands in the bank of the lake and embraces the hills and rills, just like Emperor Wu of Wei “Arriving at Jieshi in the East to See the Vast Sea” and Chairman Mao “Writing Inspirational Essays to Lead the Country”. How complacent!
